The Wedding Toast

The wedding toast is an important part of the reception.  There are some things to think about concerning a wedding toast.  When it is time for a wedding toast or two there is certain etiquette to follow.

It might be a good idea to think about the wedding toast before it happens.  One way to begin a wedding toast is to have the person giving the toast stand up and tap their glass to get everyone’s attention.  The person offering the wedding toast can then proceed.

The wedding toast should not be too lengthy.  More than three minutes are too long for the wedding toast.

The wedding toast can be sentimental, serious or humorous.  The wedding toast should not be in poor taste.  It is not a good idea to tell really embarrassing stories during the wedding.  Nor is it the time to tell about things that only a hand full of people will understand.  If anyone is made to feel uncomfortable during the wedding toast someone has made a mistake.

You may want to talk with everyone who plans to give a wedding toast and explain the guidelines for the toast.  It might also be helpful to suggest that those giving a wedding toast write a few notes and practice before they deliver their toast.

If you have serious reservations about anyone giving a wedding toast do not ask them to take part.

You might want to have an established order for the wedding toasts.  The first wedding toast could be the best man toasting the bride.  The next wedding toast could be the groom toasting the bride.

After those two toasts the bride could offer a wedding toast for the groom.  You will want to leave time between each wedding toast.

The father of the bride could then give a wedding toast for the couple followed by the bride offering a for the groom’s parents.

The groom could then give a wedding toast for the bride’s parents.  The father of the groom may want to offer a wedding for the bride and then the mother of the bride could give a toast for the couple.

Finally you could have the mother of the groom offer a wedding toast to the couple.
You may have other people who wish to give a toast.  Often the maid or matron of honor would like to offer a wedding toast.  There may be a special friend or family member whom you would like to give a wedding toast.

The wedding toast makes your day even more memorable.
