The Wedding Program

Have you started working on the wedding program yet?  The wedding program can take a little time so don’t leave it to the end of your wedding planning.

The wedding program can be simple or complex.  People have had a wedding program that is one single piece of paper.  Sometimes the wedding program is an actual booklet.  The design and contents of the wedding program is a personal choice.

You can design the wedding program yourself using your computer.  You can try using different fonts and graphics.  The wedding program can then be printed on vellum, cotton or parchment.  Using a high quality paper for the wedding program is a good idea.

If you want to get fancier with the wedding program and you or someone you know is really good at graphic design you can develop a wedding program that includes photos and typography.  If you go this route the wedding program can then be printed by a professional or it can also be xeroxed. 

You may want to order the wedding program from a stationery store or an invitation catalogue.  Ideas for the wedding program can be found in books and online.

A basic wedding program will have a cover with the names of the bride and groom and the wedding date.  This wedding program will also list the members of the wedding party and all the friends and relatives who have a part in the wedding. Often the bride and groom will list their relationship with those in the wedding party.

The wedding program will usually have the names of the bride and grooms parents as well as the name of the person officiating.

The basic wedding program should include the order of the ceremony.  The names of the writers and composers of any music or readings should be listed in the wedding program.

If you choose to have a wedding program that is longer you can also include an explanation of the religious ritual.  Some people like to list any special instructions in the wedding program.  This can be helpful as the information will direct the guests about when they should stand, sit, sing, etc.

Sometimes photos are used in the wedding program.  This is a way to personalize the wedding program.

You can use your wedding program as a way to thank guests.  The program can also contain a special mention of those who have passed away or were not able to attend the ceremony.
